UNP STUDENT COUNCIL: AN OVERVIEW
The UNP Student Council (SC) is founded on the year 1986. Under the newly-ratified UNP Student Government Constitution, the UNP SC is composed of six (6) executive officers: President, Vice President, Secretary-General, Secretary on Finance, Secretary on Audit, and Secretary on Communications, elected by the general assembly of all officially enrolled UNPians.
The executive officers are assisted by Presidential Management Staff (PMS) duly qualified for the purpose. The Council is under the tutelage of an adviser duly recommended by the executive officers.
The Council is complemented by different student organizations and formations in their delivery of student service and championing for students' rights and welfare in the university.
BEST PRACTICES OF THE UNP STUDENT GOVERNMENT
SYNCHRONIZED AND AUTOMATED UNP SC AND AUC ELECTIONS
In UNP, elections of the Student Council and Academic Unit Councils are purposively synchronized for several reasons: (1) These organizations collectively form the backbone of the student government, so that the latter cannot be completely reorganized at once in a given school year unless the SC and the AUC elections happen simultaneously; (2) For students to recognize the existence of an independent commission, the HOPE, which has sole authority over all election matters within the student government; (3) To economize time and resources in activities of the same type or nature.
It has been for some years that this synchronized SC-AUC Elections is automated (administered through the means of computers). The practice proves itself to be more participative, honest, orderly and facilitative than the traditional/manual way of doing it. It also manifests that students walk abreast with the trends in technological development.

CONFEDERATED FRATERNITIES AND SORORITIES
3
The administration puts emphasis on the development of the Greek-lettered organizations, popularly known as fraternities and sororities. Instead of leaving their operations secretive, they are ushered to undergo accreditation by the school through the OSA, become integral part of the community, have a voting power in the highest policy-making body of the studentry (SOUL), and thereafter operate under the mandate of being service fraternities and sororities.
To guarantee that all these recognized fraternities and sororities consistently observe lawful activities and peaceful coexistence, they confederate themselves into what is called as the Peaceful, Responsible and Organized Fraternities (PROFrat). They enter into a Covenant and pledge to relegate hooliganism by the promotion of Anti-Hazing as well the eradication of Fratwars in the campus.
STANDARDIZED ACCOUNTING SYSTEM FOR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
4
One of the needed characteristics of good governance is transparency and accountability. To ensure transparency and accountability in the Student Government, the Students’ Auditors for Financial Efficacy (SAFE) Commission was created.
The SAFE Commission is an independent constitutional body within the UNP Student Government, acting as the external auditor for student organizations and formations. The first version of its flagship service known as the Standardized Accounting System for Student Organizations (SASSO) was intended only for student organizations and formations. The SASSO was revised on the 2015 UNP Student Government Policy Conference and Team Building. It led to the creation of the SASSO v 2.0, which mandates student publications to submit their periodic financial statements.
The Standardized Accounting System for Student Organizations (SASSO) is a program administered by the SAFE Commission, but it is not only institutionalized within the UNP Student Government but also in the policies, services and standard operations of the Office of Student Affairs. It is a service which originated from the students, managed by the students and intended for the students.
JOINT SERVICES AND RESOURCE-GENERATION PROJECTS WITH THE UNP ADMINISTRATION
6
The Student Council and the Administration established and are maintaining the Student Resource Center (E-Library) and the University Fitness Gym which are primarily intended as services to the community. If ever there are minimal fees involved in the use of these facilities, they are literally lower than those of commercialized establishments because they are but to offset maintenance expenses and to augment the salaries of technicians/custodians.

Dr. Jose Rizal
It is a useless life that is not consecrated to a great ideal. It is like a stone wasted on the field without becoming a part of any edifice.

Dr. Gilbert R. Arce
We have our personal reasons, our personal choices. But we should live by and with the fundamentality of goodness.

Ms. Jamaica B. Vizcarra
Leadership is being selfless.

Mr. Rosbert A. Serona Jr.
We should not abandon our dreams.
